Emerging Frontiers and Challenges in Augmented Reality Applications

Abstract

A developing field of interactive design is augmented reality, in which displays of real-world scenes are seamlessly combined with virtual content. The enormous potential of augmented reality has started to be explored with the rise of personal mobile devices that can create engaging environments. This paper examines the state-of-the-art in augmented reality and technology at the moment. It explains the current problems that arise when developing augmented reality and emerging challenges applications taking into account the ergonomic and technological constraints of mobile devices and describes work done in various application domains. Future directions are introduced, along with areas that need more study.
