Abstract

The paper briefly analyses how to government revocation of article 370 and 35(A) were nullified that gave the previous state its special status and the mandate to define its domicile rules. Over the years, Article 370 underwent several dilutions with the agreement of the Kashmiris and the elected state government. These dilutions aimed to promote integration, improve administration, and ensure good governance. Despite these changes, Article 370 continued to hold immense symbolic and psychological importance for the people of Kashmir. It also exemplified India's asymmetric federalism, wherein certain federal subunits were granted varying rights, often acknowledging their unique ethnic identity.  The paper critically examines the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir before and after the abrogation of Article 370, with a focus on how the government maintains internal peace and security in the region. It also seeks to understand the continuity and changes in the nature of the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
